1. Q: What kind of Amino Acids does Proteinex® contain?
A: It contains all essential and non essential amino acids.

2. Q: Does Proteinex® contain fat, sugar, phosphorus, or carbohydrates?
A: Proteinex® has no fat, no sugar, no phosphorus, or no carbohydrates. Proteinex® contains no sugar, and this is very important because diabetes is the first mortality cause in renal patients.

3. Q: What is the content of Sodium and Potassium in Proteinex® per serving?
A: In Proteinex®, the content of sodium is 4mg and potassium 11mg (per serving). In Proteinex®-18, the content of sodium is 5mg and potassium 13mg (per serving). It is an important fact because hypertension is the second mortality cause for renal patients.

4. Q: What is the content of Nitrogen?
A: The content of Nitrogen is 2% for each 15gm (30CC)

5. Q: Can Proteinex® be mixed?
A: For adults it can be mixed with apple sauce, apple juice, grape juice, and crystal light for gastric bypass patients.

6. Q: Can infants and children use Proteinex®?
A: Infants and children can use Proteinex®. It is important to mention the content of Histidine and Arginine because they are conditionally essential in infants because they do not produce it.

7. Q: Does Proteinex® clog feeding tubes?
A: Proteinex® does not clog feeding tubes. The tubes should be flushed with water before and after the use of Proteinex®.

8. Q: What is the recommended does for renal patients under hemodialysis?
A: The recommended dose for renal patients under hemodialysis is 30CC but can be enhanced if albumin levels decrease. Consult your physician.

9. Q: Why does peritoneal dialysis need a greater amount of protein?
A: Because the protein loss is higher (approximately 10 to 20 grams per session.).


10. Q: What is the Osmolality?
A: Osmolality is 1494MOSM/KG (Proteinex®) and 550-600 MOSM/KG (Proteinex®-18)


11. Q: Can patients with liver disease take Proteinex®?
A: Patients with liver disease can take Proteinex® during the first stage of the condition. Then, they must avoid aromatic amino acids (phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan), because the ammonia contents may produce liver encephalopathy (cerebral lesion by ammonia caused in patients with liver disease). On the other hand, a patient with liver disease can use branched chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, and valine).
